I managed to find photoshop 7.0 trial for 30 days (thats how I got into it) but I cant remember where from and that took me about 3 days oh searching to find just that.
all sig makers I know use photoshop because its the easiest 1

I got Photo Impact Pro v10.0 for Christmas. When I get around to openning the box and installing it we'll see what it can do. It has an animated GIF creator in it which I'm kidnda anxious to see work.

they can be a pain to use sometimes. it took me about 2 days to get 1 thing working on a sig because when I uploaded it there would be something wrong with it

lol all of the avatars Ive used are from a website bit I have got some GIF things that I have made.
My bro has just told me of http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ its like photoshop but doesnt have all the tools but still works (for windows only) and its FREE!

Actually, The Gimp 2.0 works on Win and on Linux. Its licensed GNU.
I use it in my Gentoo and it works really well.
It may not have some of the AP tools, but it makes up by adding lots of other cool tools 
I also have a cracked Jasc, for animations.
Its free, just like my cracked Adobe Photoshop

Another good program is Paint.NET and is easier to use than GIMP. Again, it's a bit stripped down if you're comparing it to photo shop, but it gets the job done, it's totally free, and much more feature rich than MS Paint. I believe this is another Windows only app as well; it requires the MS .NET framework to run, hence the name. I know this is an old post, but I didn't remember if this was listed or not. Hope it helps! (5 years later lol)
