I don't point out how commercialised it is. Granted it's one of the points I make, but it's just a footnote.
My main gripe about it is that a day based on romance, it's the only day romance means less because it's expected.
If I bought Helen a bunch of red roses (spray painted black just for her) on August the 17th, she'd think awwwwwwwww for me?
On Valentines Day, it's expected that I do something, so it means less.
People should tell their ball and chain that they love them through out the year. *WHY* make a fuss on 1 day of the year? why not have your own Valentines day if you have to have one, like January the 23rd or something....
I'm not having this conversation for the umpteenth time though 
Anyway, to add to the irony, you're probably quoting the wrong saint anyway.

I just began to hate Valentines Day but only because of Vermont Teddy Bear and Pajama-gram ads. The radio AND TV has been saturated with these ads. They're cute the first time or two you see them but now I either mute the TV or turn off the radio for a minute. OK I'll rest my case now. Play this 25 times a day for two weeks.

But that's exactly my point. You say he has to be. Therefore it's expected, therefore it means much less. If he did the same on July the 5th, it wouldn't be expected and therefore it might actually have meaning.
