So i've got home and realised the house is empty, i'm hungry so I start to make tea.

Mum comes home about 15 minutes later and asks what i'm up to ( normally I find if I try to do anything about the house, it ends up being 'wrong' - guess it's just her being the perfectionist and house proud person that she is )

But I point out that I got home, and was hungry so tonight i'm making tea ( normally she's home before me so it would be pointless her waiting for me to get home for me to start cooking )

So... how good a cook are you? - could you 'survive' by yourself?

I am quite capable of throwing together various foods from the basics, cooking vegetables, etc - but I wouldn't feel confident at all cooking a christmas dinner with all the trimmings for a party of 12 people or suchlike.

after living in a house and having to cook at uni for myself Ive found that I can cook quite alot of things but for the more technical stuff I do sometimes need a cook book to look at. I think I am quite a confident cook and will have a go at cooking anything people want so would happily cook a roast its all about timing to get all the food to be cooked at the same time I guess.

I'm an OK chef. If I have the receipe and ingredients (and the time), I'm winning. But most nights, I can't be arsed to cook something from scratch - it's not worth it if it's just me and Paul's working (he works weird and wonderful shifts). Cooking a "proper" meal takes a lot of forward planning, buying in the stuff, making sure you have time to cook and eat it (cosmopolitan people like me live such busy lives, I struggle to fit everything in:P)

Paul does most of the cooking in our house, he's good at it too.

I can cook a fair number of entrees - atm I'm groggy and barely know my name much less what all I can cook. For now I'll just say a good bit more than tacos and omelets.

I am an ok cook. This is my second year of being 'self-catering' at Uni, so I have had plenty of practice. I also help out when I am at home because both my parents are very busy, so I have cooked for 5 quite a lot. At Uni in last autumn I cooked for the whole house most days, so I was cooking for 3.

In Oslo my group of friends had a couple of cooking evenings where we cooked food from our home countries or for special occasions. I ended up cooking Irish stew on St Patrick's Day for 17people. Never again! It was a lot of effort, but turned out well and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Although it did persuade me that I would never want to work as a professional chef.

A couple of people have told me that I am a good cook and I do enjoy cooking (more if there is no pressure, like cooking for 17 though).

Who knows, an area51 dinner party one day?

I suppose I'm an ok cook as well. I can make a mean garlic bread Smile I have one of those random throwing things together attitudes about cooking and most the time it comes out better than expected. As far as holidays go, haven't attempted it yet, but I'd be more than happy to give it a shot
