|
|
Every year, Hull plays host to Europe's largest travelling fair.
As Minty has never been before, I'm taking him on Saturday night as I reckon he'd like the atmosphere and experience.
I know the place is old, my grandad used to go in his youth, however I had no idea it was over 700 years old! Quite amazing really.
Anyway, it starts tonight

Yep. We're having the NC State Fair October 15th-25th. It's not 700 years old but it has drawn large crowds in the past. I'm personally kinda eager to see if the 10% unemployment rate - wait, not if, but how much it affects atteandance.

The fair here isn't all that exciting. It arrives in Easter Holidays and it was always better and bigger, but someone had to ruin it one year and stab someone so it has got a bit smaller over the years and there is now a big fence around it.
Also we have a flower show, We used to have "A Taste of Bath" - a food thingy run by channel 4 but they couldn't find the sponsors this year, The most well known one - The Bath International Music Festival, and lots more I just can't think of them. _________________

Convinced they do ( or did do ) jousting up at the castle, but as the castle is on my doorstep I don't really pay that much attention these days to what goes on.
We have the Lincolnshire Show ( a load of farmers turn up from miles around and over teh years it's spread pretty much to include any business ) roads are closed, diversions are put in place, I book those days as holiday from work to avoid having to drive amongst it.
Christmas Market, apparently again, people come from miles around ( I long since got fed up of that as well )
We have various circuses and fairs
'Meg' Feast...

I'm sure I can come up with more... _________________ I should update my sig. What to put here for $CurrentYear ? |

Hull Fair was great fun, although I did start to feel very dizzy, very quickly.
In true fair fashion, there are fortune tellers. For a laugh, I thought I'd have my palm read. I have never had it done before and have always been interested.
Anyway here's what the old lady said:
My lucky number is 6 and my lucky colour is red,
I wasn't married (genius! She was looking at my left hand and I didn't have any rings on!) but I would live with my future husband before I married him (most couples do nowadays)
There would be some changes for the better where work is concerned
Ok and get this:
I'd get married and have 2 boys and a girl!!!! _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

You've heard of those 'forced marriages' right ?
Where regardless of what you want, you get bullied or pushed into a marriage you don't want or care for. Unfair on both parties of course because you wouldn't ever put the effort in if it's something you don't really want. But that doesn't seem to stop them. _________________ I should update my sig. *hoping that 2 boys and a girl are actually kittens, not human babies*
Re forced marriages - Me thinks that's another topic altogether. There are many reasons for this; cultural norms, doing what is expected of you, having a 'shot-gun' wedding if you get accidentially pregnant, getting married to a member of the opposite sex to hide homosexuality (you'll be surprised how often that happens!) and perhaps some people think that 'marriage was a good idea at the time' and a few years later, think 'oh bugger' _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com
