I've often thought this. How much security is security and how much is just for show just to make people feel safe.

Excellent and hilarious at the same time!
I was taken aside one time at DFW for "further questioning " because the security agent thought I "looked nervous". I put up with their banal questioning for a few minutes then produced my federal ID card proving I was a Air traffic controller.
Minty, along that line, I just read recently how security has decided to stop the x-ray scanning of children- with that new gizmo that basically shows them a nude outline picture- It comes into conflict with all the child pornography laws of their own creation. The damn device is a total invasion of privacy. I sure as hell don't want some dick weed security fool being able to basically look at my wife in the nude.
To conclude, I suppose all the new measures do make some people feel safer, but I see it as a further erosion of our rights and civil liberties.
It has come to the point of being assumed guilty and having to prove yourself innocent. Really, think about it, you can't take pictures because you might be a terrorist ?
God help us !

I was in a supermarket once ( think Wallymart ) and one of my friends who worked there came running up to me once saying 'Hey! - security have been watching you for the past 15 minutes because they thought you looked a bit shifty!' - he put them at ease and came to tell me
They took some convincing apparently as well! they were convinced I was there either to nick stuff or I was there as a decoy, I was perhaps the most excitement they'd seen for a while and were upset when someone ruined their fun, hence why they wouldnt believe one of their own staff!

The scanner being trialled at the airport's Terminal 2 shows up a clear outline of passengers' private parts and also displays breast enlargements, piercings and false limbs.

So girls... That fat, balding ( with come over hairstyle ) old man at the security scanners in airports is grinning because he can see you.
And men, that woman isn't giggling at you... ...honest...
But please understand this is totally for your own safety and that guy wont be using his mobile phone to take pictures of you at all.
