So Ive been kinda slack on my new years res to post more often, none the less Im still around and I have some news.

I am planning a trip to come out to England either early next year or in your summer next year, not sure which at this stage. But I need to know what I ought to do with my time, I'll probably spend at least a month or two over there, depending on how much money I can save up btwn now and then and I was wondering if you locals had any ideas as to the must see things.

So far all I am adament about is seeing Temple Church, because Im a keen student of the history of The Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon. But other than that Im open to ideas.

There is a lot worth seeing, obviously London. If you are interested in history, I would recommend going to the Roman baths at Bath (and the British museum when you are in London). If you are willing to go outside the UK I would say Dublin is well worth a visit (again some great museums, and the Guiness brewery is amazing). Hmmm there is so much else to suggest, it may take a while for me to think of stuff...I will repost later

Of course an area51 meet up could be in order???

Lots of stuff, in short!

The good thing about the UK is that it's packed with stuff to do.

A few 'must sees':
- York - I'd recommend a few days here at least. There's the Jorvic Centre (it's a very cool Viking Centre), the Minister, ghost tours, the Roman Walks & builidings and loads of history.

- Edinburgh - I'd also recommend you spend a few days there. There's the Castle, ghost walks (I like ghost walks), the royal yatch (really good actually!) various museums about life and history.

You could also do a 'Dutch Dash' on P&O North Sea Ferries - the port is a short bus or train ride from York. I can also recommend these - lots of fun. You go on the ferry overnight, spend a day in Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Burgee and back on the ferry overnight.

Yes - go to Leeds Armouries, its awesome!

Don't even get me started on naughty place-names...I have done a module on place-names and I naturally look out for place-names. Through archaeology I have come across Wetwang Slack (Yorkshire). Through dissertation research I have come across the Butt of Lewis, the Cock of Arran, the Paps of Jura and Grobolls. There are two towns called Cockrington in Lincolnshire, Fingeringhoe in Essex and Upper Ramsbottom in Lancashire. I had better stop there hehe

London has added AVARiCE. It's also the capital. People say the two aren't linked but I'm not so sure.

Dear me, was it really only just past ANZAC day the last time I posted here, *sigh* I am forever reminded that life is too short.

Anyway, I and here for more suggestions. You see if occurs to me that there are so very many things to see and do while Im visiting overseas, that I will not really have enough time to see much of it, which will be a shame.

So to resolve this I think I will apply for a working visa, and try to earn some money while I am over there so that I can stay longer, the problem of course is that I have no idea where to look for casual work. Im thinking of doing some bar tending courses here first, since I have heard that aussie bartenders are sought after somewhat, which reminded me that some people here work at and/or know people who own or work at bar and pubs over there.

Which leads me, in my round about way, to asking if any of you know of any particularly good places that I can get some casual work, a few days/nights a week, and what kind of qualifications id need to work there?

Good idea!

I have no idea how easy/hard it is to get a work visa to the UK for non-EU residents. I do know that they are planning to tighten the rules alot. This may be worth researching,

As for looking for a job, the best place to find work is by looking at the local newspaper or their website.

There are a few sites you can try:
http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/homepage.aspx?sessionid=a46625bd-0f85-4513-8a45-074e3681ef90&pid=2

Monster.co.uk

It may be worth signing for temping agencies too.

As far as I'm aware you don't need a training course to be a bartender (I didn't anyway!)

Where are you suggesting staying? May I suggest that you *don't* stay in London or the South East - it's bloody expensive to live there and it wouldn't be cost effective to stay there.

I might warn you that there is a big job shortage at the moment (recession and all). My boyfriend has been looking for work for 6months now with no luck:(
