Spurred on by a comment by Vagilik in the World Of Warcraft thread I present to you...
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator was created by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers based on the work of Carl Jung.
If you're interested here's the wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBTI
In short, it tries to categorize who you are as a person down to a set of initials each displaying a certain aspect of who you are as a person.
A bit like a geek code but far less complex.
I was introduced to it through someone who was telling me how he was having communication problems at work with various people, I mentioned I have the same issues, not just at work but with some people in general he recommended I see if I can track down a quick free online test and research what I came out as, and yes while there are various books and paid for services it's best to not just jump in feet first.
So I ran off to find an online test that I could do for free and I came across
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp
72 questions with a 'score it' button at the end.
I came out as a INTP
Short write up here
http://www.personalitypage.com/INTP.html
Far much more in depth write up here
http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html
I read the far much more in depth write up ( I wanted to accquire as much information as possible, analyze it, and decide if it sounded like me. Of course I needed the longer write up for that )
It was *very* much me indeed, but not wanting to fall into the trap of just reading something and saying 'I believe' I went and found alternate people who I felt knew me well to read it and decide if it sounded like me or not. They all agreed that it very much was me.
So I unleashed it upon other people, I wanted to know how it would work on a larger test group, a lot said their write ups sounded just like them.
If you could take the test as well and then post your type here, and see if it sounds like you.
Please note that this is not a 'what sort of batman are you?' type comedy test ( hence why this isn't in the comedy section ) but is more serious, while it may not be 'official' ( and threfore open to mistakes, for official see the link at the foot of this post ) it would be interesting to see how accurate it is across an ever increasing subject group.
Crucially for me however, reading up on my personality type and how it interfaces with other people told me pretty much what I already knew and what was happening but at least for me now I had it confirmed

I'll look at this later, I've taken a "real" Briggs test, Not sure if I recall my 4 letter type but it was darned accurate. The person who did the test spoke about me as if she'd been spying on me for a long time.
Spooky. _________________

Also known as 'caregivers', or 'people persons' quite sensitive but very loving people, male esfj's *appear* quite masculine but are quite sensitive.

Well Minty that sounds accurate for the most part I suppose. Now I just wish the psychiatric evaluation I had that was court ordered didn't find me to be a drug addict (I haven't done drugs since i experimented as a teenager and its been over 10 years and now it's on my record. not cool and there's no way to fight it) _________________ Keyboard not connected, press F1 to continue. |

As mentioned in the short write up above
http://www.personalitypage.com/INTP.html
Quote: |
They are not likely to place much value on traditional goals such as popularity and security. They usually have complex characters, and may tend to be restless and temperamental. They are strongly ingenious, and have unconventional thought patterns which allows them to analyze ideas in new ways. Consequently, a lot of scientific breakthroughs in the world have been made by the INTP.

We are one of the rarest personality types ( think we come 3rd ) so we belong to a 'special' club
The most rarest appears to be the INFJ type
