So today is the day, gonna stop by the shop later today to drop off some cash to get this officially in motion, I also orderd a new high flow water pump and thermostat from summit racing just because. I might be able to get some pics of where the build is at right now, the rotating assembly was sent out to Denver last week ahead of schedule and might be back already?? At the least I should get a shot or two of my new block. Hell at this rate it may be in before thanksgiving!!
I can barely wait to get all that power under the hood! (not a bonnet, my Suburban is just to big and heatful to have a bonnet) _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

ok so started on my new instrement panel today, got my aluminum today and started round one of the modifications!
SO HOW DID i GET TO THAT?
took the bezel out the blazer and started by peeling the front lay sticker off.
then stuck it to the aluminum, and traced it off.
here is what is left with the old bezel for now, will see where it goes from here.

Did kind of wonder how you got the dash like that, thought though either you got some thicker metal plate and drilled it, or had it custom made again.
Didn't notice or think it was the same dash!
Was going to make a comment that I hope it's not just that little bit too small when you drilled the holes out but seems you'll not have that problem
Be interesting when the block arrives. _________________ I should update my sig. What to put here for $CurrentYear ? |

made a little more progress tonight but it didnt go excatly as I had planned so the end result will be a little different. I will fiberglass the panel in and paint it so it will look good, it was a bitch to cut with the tools I had but I has plan B in mind just incase.
Jigged up to make the first cut to size it for the bezel.
piolt holes to cut out vent and A/C control access.
first bend made
second bend made
had to cut out all the old gauge holes from the bezel
new panel sitting in place
back side
and yet another teaser!
more to come tomorrow I hope. _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

You can't stop the dash there! - especially with those pictures, I was all getting worked up to see it all finished and that's how you left it?

got the holes drilled and mounted the plate to the bezel with a few countersunk screws. Now all I got to do is bondo it and start sanding and cleaning up edges and then paint.!
and got the speedometer stuck in place just for the pics, sorry no more cardboard from here on out.
oh and the 1/2 holes along the top are for indicator lights, the center will be a blue one for the high beams then each side for the turn signals. _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

Warwgn I've just had a brilliant idea for a Christmas special post.
You should take all the pictures of Subzilla before it was rebuilt and then another set taken in the present as a "Then and Now" sort of thing.

so I am thinking this for the dash:

and this for the 2nd row seats

and two of these for the 3rd row

Will hook up the PS2 so it can be played on the big 24" and also double as a dvd so movies can be watched by all in the back. And as the 10 yr old grows out of kid movies she can sit in the back and watch something else. Thinking of when I take vacations with 3 kids and Granpa in the back, this gives them something to do, can have 3 different movies going in the back at one time so each kid can be happy and Granpa can take a nap!
of course this is after the A/C gets fixed. _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

so after the let down not getting to see my new engine today I decided to do some work on the dash bezel instead.
added more bondo and got the rough fill complete.
after a lot of sanding I am now half way done!
now need to go back and do the finish fill and sand again then hit it with the glazing putty sand it again, drill the mounting holes out, glazing putty around those, sand it again, shoot it with primer, you guessed it sand it again! Then hit the finish primer and sand that with the 600 grit and it's ready for paint!! _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

here is the new 8.1 liter engine.
496 CI (8.1L), 10:1 pistons, cam comp cams 11-246-3 as follows:
lift INT .552 EXH .555,
duration@.006 INT 274 EXH 286
lobe seperation 110*
It is gonna have a little attitude me thinks!! SHould be around 450-500 HP and 550-600 FtLbs
I cant wait!!! I usually do all this myself as you know, but it is just too cold to be out side trying to put this in, and I am getting a killer deal on all this, so I am having it done this time.
so stopped by at lunch today and of course he was not as far as I had hoped but still says he is on track for tomorrow starting it up.
all empty waiting for the new power plant, look at that lonely Hughes Converter just hanging there all sad.
the old 454 stripped down in shame!
and the fresh new hotness! Getting ready for oil and being primed.
Valves are adjusted and locked down, and he is prolly got oil in it now and priming the block as I am typing this. He said should be ready to fire it up tomorrow so hope it all goes well and I can get it tomorrowbut will just have to wait and see. _________________ I'm faster than you!!!!!

I think I said at the beginning of this project I imagined this thing to have enough torque where you didn't actually drive it forwards anymore, it stayed where it was and the world revolved underneath its wheels. I think you've just proved it
