I'm sure everyone is aware of the crazy-arsed riots which are taking place (now) all over the bloody country!
Have you been affected by it? Does it worry you?
BTW I can account for my whereabouts every night this week and I have witnesses too!

I live in Reading, and it's not affecting us (well, other than the odd report of half a dozen stupid kids, but that could be normal lol)...
But - my band is supposed to be practising tonight near uxbridge, but that's been cancelled due to scaremongering - I'm pretty sure we would have been fine grrr |

I hope all those of you in the UK stay safe. Looks like I got out of London at just the right time! I am in Reykjavik now - all lovely and riot free

I heard the two girls interviewed about the riots - the ones who said (I'm paraphrasing) "we wanted to show the police and the rich people we can do what we want"
The first thing I said was "That sounds just like Helen!!"
Just kidding - oh go ahead spank me. . . .
but yeah i've been following the story and as usual all the reports assume you heard the very first one and all since.
Now, is this wave of riots only due to a shooting by the police or is it related to other things as well? economy etc.
and yes i'm to lazy to be arsed to look it up.

From what I can understand, it goes something like the following:
Thursday 4th August: police shoot a man dead in London.
Saturday afternoon 6th August: family & friends gather near police station to ask for answers (it's been investigated, these things take time, doh!)
Later on in the evening, the peaceful protest is hi-jacked by rioters who, in my opinion, don't give a damn about the original cause - or prpbably don't even know what it's all about!!!
I'm sure people will blame inequality, poverty, high-unemployment and the poor state of the economy but (again, in my opinion) it's about opportunistic behaviour and mob-mentality.

Hehe. Well, I am very lucky to be able to visit all these lovely places
Iceland is lovely. Reykjavik is such a pleasant city - fairly small for a capital. I am looking forward to exploring more at the weekend - I am acually living in a suburb so I haven't seen much of the city itself yet. Everything is very close to the sea (I can see it from my desk at work). I have posted some piccies on facebook, so those of you who are friends with me on facebook can look at them if you want
This Saturday it is 'Culture Night', where lots of places in the city centre have cultural activities going on in the day and evening, which I will check out. On Sunday I am going on a 'Golden Circle Tour', which is the 'must do' tour of Iceland - you get to see the Geysir (the one all the others are named after), Gullfoss waterfall and the Thingvellir (site of the Viking Thing - one of the earliest parliaments in the world - also where the Eurasian and North American continental plates are drifting apart). I am really looking forward to it!
