If you saw a crime taking place, would you do anything to intervene?
Paul and I were at his mother's house a few weeks ago. She doesn't live in the best of areas and they often have a problem of drugs and anti-social behaviour. Paul was in the kitchen, making some tea when he looked out of the window and sees a group of kids "kitting up" in a children's playground (e.g. rolling a joint). He immediately runs out and confronts them, tells them off and gets them to leave. I reckon if more people were willing to stand up to petty crime then there would be less of it in the neighbourhood.
If it were me, I wouldn't dare intervene, they were only teenagers but they were bigger than me. But I'd definitely call the police. _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

It would totally depend on the situation. Firstly it would depend on how many people there are for example if it where a big gang then forget it no chance but if it's someone getting mugged or assaulted by one person I would definitely help the victim. _________________

I would make a quick guesstimate about how much I would get harmed vs how much good I could do before intervening, but if I decided not to I would contact the police if I thought it would help. |

I think it would depend on what crime was taking place, because at the moment everyones just talking about someone else getting beaten up etc, and in that situation I think it would be best to look at the situation decide on if you could help and if not call the police and then maybe step in knowing that the police are on there way.
The other crime Im thinking about is someone braking into you own house or property, in that case I would phone the police, then probs phone my cusins up (they only live round the corner and both bouncers) and beat the little shits up, all in self defence of course _________________

Who knows, I can say whatever I want to say now what it depends on is my reaction during the heat of the moment. I'll just keep my mouth shut, then I'm not obligated to do anything, ah laziness.

I have seen someone stealing sweets but I didn't do anything about it because they got caught by the security man. Silly person!
Anyhoo, I'd have to look at the risks involved but you never know instinct may intervene. _________________

Is that all ?
Has anyone on here seen the film Wilt ? ( think it was Wilt anyway)
This off duty police officer is walking over this bridge and hears some commotion going on underneath, so he looks over and sees a fight going on, so he looks around and sees an abandoned shopping trolley ( think it's a shopping trolley) he picks it up, and throws it on top of the man who seems to be winning the fight.
The other who was getting a beating, looks up in surprise, the policeman shouts down to him - 'well leg it then while the bastard is down!' - thanks the guy replies and does a runner.
Pulling out his badge the copper says to the other guy, while recovering from having a trolley just dropped on him
'Right you're coming with me!'
ALSO pulling out his badge, the guy replies
'I am the police you gormless erection'
Look, you don't know the circumstances those people are acting the way they are. Someone might be getting a kicking that they deserve.
Not saying that 2 wrongs make a right ( that's 3 lefts) but maybe intervening yourself is not the answer. Notify the police so they can turn up 3 hours later when everyone has left the scene of the crime, but don't endanger yourself and drop yourself in the middle of a fight that may make you a 'marked man' _________________ I should update my sig.
