I was starting to like you
Oh well, you're a student and all students are hippies, so i'll let you off... for now...
Anyway, wtf is this? - this forum is inhabited by commies! - Nebrios, i'd of expected better of you - pussies the lot of you...
Though it seems we all get this message at the bottom, so i'm right as well.

I thought the following quote summed up how I felt.
Quote: |
"You might be wondering if whether I'm conservative, liberal, libertarian, or exactly what... See, I don't want to fit any of those labels, because I believe that the truth doesn't have labels. When I see corruption, I try to expose it. When I see exploitation, I try to fight it. That's my political position."
|
I defy labels, so like the girl at the supermarket with one of those labelling machines being used on the wrong product, i've been miss labelled
But if you want the answer to this test for me they are
Social Conservative
(30% permissive)
and an...
Economic Conservative
(73% permissive)

I got to question 3 and felt that I neither agreed nor disagreed. I was being presented with a 'false dilemma' so popular with politicians (The Swiss would have had reservations about Bush's claim "Your're either with [the US] or you're with the terrorists".)
As soon as someone demands I choose between one particular bunch of attitudes or another, I feel entrapment and back off.
The compilers either deliberately built unrealistically limited possibilities into their questions or they just framed them badly. Either way, I'm not buying. |

But this is what I was trying to get at in the quote I posted. I, like Taf, got as far as... whichever question it was, and didn't agree or disagree, thereby warping the results, so when I was presented with a question like that I took a random guess, therefore as pointed out by Taf, this is a rather limited questionnaire, not only that, I have perhaps warped my answers (and thereby my final score) by arbitrarily picking a random answer.
In fact, that answer wasn't even my first, first time round I ended up being on the borderline of republican and centrist, which I didn't like, so I took it again and chose different 'indifferent' answers until I had moved clearly enough out of the centrist area.
I don't really understand the interest on putting a label on people's views. As this survey has proved, it's a lot harder than saying - this person is a X so he/she believes this. Chances are, that person might not believe everything that a X is supposed to believe. _________________ I should update my sig. What to put here for $CurrentYear ? |

Americans are experts at forcing false dilemmas down your throat, especially when it comes to politics and they don't get called on it often enough.
I have a mental condition which makes lying really uncomfortable for me, so I can't make up misleading answers for "just a bit of fun".
I just get *slightly* offended that anyone would want me to feel bad with cheap rhetorical tricks, or think that I'm dumb enough to fall for them. I think it's *more than slightly* sad that so many people are comfortable with it.
It's obvious to me that my results would be unrepresentative, so I'm not bothering. |

Why is the majority of the people who posted here a liberal, but the poll says republican? - or don't people (this goes for me as well as well) understand the different parties? - I may be wrong here and may not understand myself hence the misunderstanding.

Doesn't matter Taf, i'm going to apply the label of liberal to you as well... It's what everyone else here seems to be (going by what has been posted) and you read the 'How to send the world to Hell in a handbasket'
You've not had to do anything, i'm just taking the reading literature you feel happiest with, and based my assumption on that. Because, although Helen (and maybe aalpha) will try to cause me some serious pain, i'm going to say it anyway - 'There is more than one way to skin a cat' _________________ I should update my sig. Considering I read Gerard Henderson and Miranda Devine about 10 times as often as I would read a Guardian article, you would be using an unrepresentatively small data set on which to base your decision.
I hold many liberal and libertarian views, but I feel that when someone calls me a label, they are choosing to think I hold a whole bunch of ideas that I disagree with. The next thing is people who do that react to you as if they really were my ideas and all of a sudden I'm being attacked for things I don't even believe in.
Yeah, so people inventing opinions on my behalf and then attacking me for them really makes me hostile. And it's always the same people who want to label you who want to make such unjustified attacks, because they're incapable of coping with issues on a case by case basis.
So I get hostile to people, not because of what they think, but by their intellectual dishonesty about what I think. And if there's the slightest suspicion that might go down, my hackles are up and I'm expecting an attempted rhetorical sandbagging. |
