I've heard alot of about Twitter from the grapevine and newspapers. A lot of respectable celebrities are on it - like Stephen Fry. However, I've never actually used it myself. Is it just another facebook?
Who here uses it?
I saw this ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8070384.stm ) and it made me think of this topic. _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

It's not another facebook - it's basically another facebook status thingymablobber. People post updates limited to 140/160 (??) characters.
It's taking the world by storm because of how easy it is to use - Stephen Fry famously used his smartphone to upload a "Tweet" saying he was stuck in a lift.
I use Twitter in that I check some people's Twitters but I'm not on it, however I might join up over the summer, my opinion on Twitter changes daily.

Everything I've seen and heard compels me to brand Tweets and Twitters as perfect fodder for a narcissist's perfect wet dream.
How can you look forward to hearing from someone special to you, via email, phone or even in person, if they've spent the day keeping the world informed that they found a parking space, tied their shoes, bought this and that and you've spent all day reading it?
By the way my butt itches.
I just scratched my butt.
Now my butt don't itch any more.

If a tweet can transmit from inside a lift, can't a call to the Police or Fire Brigade get out too? I'd much rather call 911 than tweet "I'm stuck in a lift - call some one." The word tedious is coming to mind here. _________________

I don't see the point. I am already on facebook (pretty much constantly! hehe), as are most of my friends. I don't think its worth the hassle of setting up a new profile and finding all my friends again unless it offers me something different/new/interesting instead of just updating my status. _________________ ~~~I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minuite of it!~~~

I may be changing my view of twitter mainly due to the possibility of using twitter to organize groups at town hall meetings and communicate with unlimited numbers of people in real time. It does appear to have uses other than the narcissistic drivel that made it famous. _________________

In my experience you can use facebook for that - I have set up several groups and events to coordinate with people. Pretty much everything at Uni is organised on facebook - each society has its own facebook group and the social secretary uses this to organise events and tell people about them.
As for communicating in real time, the chat feature lets you talk to one at a time. If I want to chat to more I would use msn or Skype. _________________ ~~~I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minuite of it!~~~

Doesn't Twitter work better with cell phones than Face book? _________________

I don't know, I never tried facebook with my cell phone, but twitter is simple. i dont use all of the options available, I just say random things and whoever is following me sees it. i follow a couple people myself and have it sent to my phone. so it's easier for me _________________ Keyboard not connected, press F1 to continue. |

Don't use Twitter myself. Can't see the point when I have facebook.
Facebook is fine on my phone. I don't have the main website, I have to use the mobile website. Also facebook can send me texts when someone has tagged me etc etc But I don't have that on. _________________

I haven't ever used my phone for internet/facebooking, so that doesn't really concern me in which networking site I choose. I don't really see much point - it has a tiny screen and will cost a lot more than just waiting until I get home (which is generally soon enough for whatever I needed to look up). _________________ ~~~I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minuite of it!~~~

It's basically a site where you post every single thing you do, every time you do something. You're constantly just changing your status. Nothing more, nothing less. It's like Facebook, with nothing but a status. It's stupid and pointless. |
