We're hitting lows of low 40s to low 60s at night and highs from the low 70s to low 80s. Same here, sweat and chill. _________________

First time I think my car's outside temperature reading hit single figures since the early months of this year...
9 degrees Celsius = 48.2 degrees Fahrenheit
High's of about 60.8 degrees Fahrenheit
I like to use Fahrenheit, but wanted to see if I could make you lot think for a second
Single figures! - WTH... Oh yeah... you're strange and use different measurements

Still warm enough not to need a coat! But that's my own perception. It's because I walk everywhere and especially uphill on the way home, so I'm nice and toasty when I get home.
Currently it is 12 degrees outside, 50ish in Fahrenheit. _________________

I'm glad Minty translated because I had no idea what you were all talking about? 80 degrees!? Surely you'd all be dead from heatstroke?
My way of thinking of temperatures is that water freezes at 0 and boils at 100. I usually start to melt at 25.
Here it's the annoying time when it's slightly too warm to have the heating on but cold enough to have to wear big heavy jumpers.
The depressing thing is, this time last year, I was packing to go to Australia _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

At work we have this temperature and humidity gauges, quite small things that sit on your desk the one on my desk is obviously set to Fahrenheit ( it's what I measure in ) but every one is set to Celsius. We have to report our figures to our Health And Safety officer and i'm the only person who reports in Fahrenheit.
He asked me to report in Celsius, so I gave him the formula to convert the temperature and then started to report in Kelvin just to be awkward.
When he replied that it was now beyond useless, I gave him the formula to convert between Kelvin and the other temperature scales there were.
It was at this point I got bored of playing this game and just told him about google calculator and went back to reporting in Fahrenheit.

Winter is approaching here in the pacific northwest. Right now ,early in the morning, it is 39 F outside with an expected high in the low 50s. It rained all day yesterday and with the low pressure area passing we have a wind advisory for today. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible. Fortunately, our house is situated below a ridge . That, and all the tall trees, shelter us from the brunt of conditions like that.
A general rule of thumb up here is that, after Halloween, all bets are off. Snow is possible anytime after that. I guess in a couple of weeks I will mount the snow plow onto the big Ford truck to be ready. I have seen two feet of snow fall overnight here so you have to be prepared. I have one more cord of wood to split and stack and that will make 7 cords total on hand. That should see us through the winter with a buffer amount.
A pic of the plow rig

Spartman - before winter, do you have to stock up on supplies? (like tinned goods, long life milk etc) _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

Morning all,

We do keep a good amount of food supplies on hand in case things get crazy. We have dehydrated potatoes, eggs, milk and fruit. The pantry is also stocked with paper products, 60 gallons or more of distilled water, lots of canned vegies, pasta etc.
I keep abeam of the snow removal with the plow and snow thrower and in the event of electrical failure there is a large backup generator for our electrical needs. Electric is the most common issue that occurs here and it is usually a matter of wind storms messing with the supply and not the snow.
There is already snow in the upper elevations of the mountains ( I will try and remember the camera when I go to town today and get a pic to post )
So yes, it can be challenging to live up here but there is still no other place that I would rather live. It is very beautiful and peaceful and I consider myself very fortunate to be able to live here.
