My beloved cat, Clio, died last week. She was 16 years old and had kidney failure (it is very common in older cats). It's been a really hard week and very upsetting. I miss her terribly already and I still have not come to terms with it.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Aww no, that's so sad. My thoughts are with you. Its so upsetting when pets die - my old cat Patch died last year, she had been with us for 13years. She was old and not very well, but her health suddenly deteriorated so it was quite a shock.

At the moment my dog (who is 9) is at the vets, they think he has kidney problems and his heart is doing some thing funny. Sad

As I said the other day my heart is broken for you. I can't imagine how you must hurt over and over again. I've looked all over the place for some kind of sweet poem or verse that could help ease the grief and I think there's no such thing. Only your memories of Clio can fill the hole in your heart and I'm sure you have many. **big big hug** Sad

I was really sorry to hear that when you first told me as well, as I told Paul once 'You love Clio'

That is perhaps obvious to everyone I think who has ever had the pleasure of meeting you.

Everyone deals with grief in their own way, whatever works for you 'do that'. Don't let anyone try to tell you that you're not doing it right or you should of moved on by now. You will move at your own pace, do not put deadlines on it just let yourself grieve with how you're feeling at each moment.

I've already said this to you already but think about her when you feel you want to, stop thinking about her when you want, doesn't matter if it's half way through a thought do what you feel is right for you. It's your own head, you know it best of all.

I find writing everything down also helps, and now with the wonders of cut/copy/paste - helps even more get your thoughts in order. But obviously, only do this if you feel it'd help.

Our first cat went the same way, her back legs started to go, then she walked into the utility room once and never got up again. She too was 16 years old.

Pets form a part of your family, they are 'one of us' and so it is always an upsetting time when they die.

I wish you and your family all the best and my thoughts are with you all.

Hugs

Thanks Helen. Sadly he died this morning, he was only 9 but he had always had health problems. Still it was quite a shock as the recent problems seemed to be different from his long running problem. The house just seems empty without him

When I was looking for that sweet poem or verse to comfort Helen everything I found came across as a bit too heavy or mushy even for the grief of loosing a much beloved pet.

One thing I did find that I thought was a nice thought to have about our pets even if it is a little bit juvenile - I mean the whole idea of this thing I'm about to show you all IMHO fits better in a child's mind than an adult.

However, having said that I've always said in matters of romance and women if you can't be a fool for love what good are you? Likewise how much more so for our pets who are infinitely more loyal and faithful than anything on hind legs?

So here is *one* portal out of many to a place called "Rainbow Bridge."

http://www.petloss.com/rainbowbridge.htm

Maybe Helen and Rach can find a little peace at the bridge.
