This is mostly for all of you in the UK, but other states besides NV are welcome as well. The whole post that involved mothers in the UK and fathers getting paternity leave sparked this whole thing.
So I'm a father that never was married or lived with the mother of our child. She's not the nicest person in the world and I have recently had to go to the courthouse out here to fight for visitation/custody.
My daughter is 3 years old and since the day she was born things have been not too good between me and the mother. I went to a fathers rights group and found out what I needed to do. Just because I pay child support doesn't automatically give me the right to see my daughter. I'm not abusive, on drugs, unemployed, or any other way unfit, but that has nothing to do with it apparently.
how do things work elsewhere when things like this come up?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Keyboard not connected, press F1 to continue. |

not sure what the UK legal rights are..
..but I really don't think you should have to pay any child maintenance if the other partner is cutting you out completely from the child's life for no good reason |

I kind of disagree with this statement because its not the child's fault that their father is being cut out of being in his/her life, so why should the child miss out (obviously if the maintenance pay is going towards the child & not the mother spending it on herself) but at the same time the other partner is not doing the child any favours by acting in such a manner by cutting the father out completely.
Here is a little information I found on what rights fathers have in the UK...

well yeh i kinda disagree with myself too there! - if 2 people make a child they are both reponsibile for it full stop
but i do think both partners should definitely have rights to see the child unless there is good reason (like violence, abuse, drugs etc)... |

Each family's situation is different so it will be pretty difficult to have one rule to suit everyone's lifestyle and situation. It can be a minefield!
Ideally each family should work something out between themselves but if they can't then unfortunately lawyers will have to get involved:( _________________ Helen, the Administratrix of www.area51newmexico.com

Yeah I suppose there are different reasons and such and it's kind of hard to describe my own situation. Just figured things might be dealt with differently out there than here _________________ Keyboard not connected, press F1 to continue. |
