Seriously, if I had a penny for every time this has happened to me, I would make more than through being paid to do the archaeology in the first place haha!

@ Helen - I am still studying conservation, got another year to go. I have two work placements lined up over the summer: at a museum in London and another in Reykjavik, Iceland. I am really looking forward to both. I am in for a hectic summer Smile

Yeah - we need to organise our next meet up! Unfortunately due to the aforementioned work placements I will not be in your neck of the woods until mid-September Sad

My first week went well Smile Although commuting in London is horrible! Especially as I am using the Northern line which is supposed to be the worst one...But the museum work makes up for the commute. I am relly enjoying the work (although when you try to explain it to other people it sounds really boring! For example I spent this week cleaning iron C17th candlesticks after they had been on display before putting them back in the store, I made a transport package for a Viking spearhead [which had to be custom made to fit the spearhead perfectly - this took nearly a whole day!] and have started cleaning some iron objects that have been dug up from a wet area so are really filthy...it may sound lame to everyone else but I am enjoying it).

Hmm...perhaps whilst I am in London some form of area51 London branch get together is necessary?!

I personally find archeology fascinating. You never know what little bit of engraving or carving is going to dispel centuries of conclusions about a culture.

I'm thinking now about a find that listed which people had paid taxes once upon a time. Included on the list were a group mentioned in the Bible - the Hittites, whom scholars believed either did not actually exist or were too small to count. I'm fuzzy on the details.

My point is somebody brushed off a piece of clay or papyrus and turned scholarship upsidedown. That's COOL!!! Wink Very Happy
